Step2 Thomas Roller Coaster Review

Step2 Thomas the Tank Engine Up & Down Coaster
Step2 Thomas the Tank Engine Up&Down Coaster
The Thomas Train Roller Coaster from Step 2 promises to be great fun and excitement for your toddler. In this day and age, it’s getting harder to keep a child’s attention without something with a bright flashy screen. The Step 2 Thomas Roller Coaster actually fairs quite well in keeping those little munchkins entertained for hours on end.

The roller coaster itself requires just a little bit of adult assembly but it’s really easy and actually quite fun to put together. The ride on train comes fully assembled so all you have to do is snap together a few pieces of track and you’re good to go. The track is 9 feet long but since it’s in a straight line it takes up far less space than you might think.

Safety Features of the Thomas Roller Coaster

This will probably be a major concern for most parents but this toy is really quite safe. The train stays securely in place until the child is ready to ride and the high back and foot rests, along with easy to hold handlebars, ensures they will stay in the seat from beginning to end. When it comes to my three-year-old, I don’t take safety lightly and I was impressed with the care put into the safety features.

The Thomas Train Roller Coaster Can Be Used Without the Track

This is great because when your little one gets tired of going up and down (not sure that actually happens) they can scoot around the house or yard using nothing but their little legs to scurry along. If you have any small hills in your yard it can be a great way to keep the excitement of a roller coaster but also get them outside at the same time.

Additional Features of the Step 2 Thomas Roller Coaster
  1. Nine feet of track (2.4 metres)
  2. Two non-slip steps to give the child easy and safe access to the ride
  3. A ride on train that looks just like the real Thomas
  4. Up and down motion
  5. Very durable construction
Pros:
  • Very safe
  • Durable plastic can withstand lots of use
  • Kids have a blast on this thing
  • Easy assembly
  • Can use train car on it’s own
Cons:
  • Quite large but it fits nicely near a wall
  • Some parts come taped to the bottom of the train so they’re easy to overlook (some reviews on amazon mention missing parts that turned out to be there all along)
Final Verdict

I was a little worried about the size and safety when I came to the Step 2 Thomas Roller Coaster but I was pleasantly surprised by both. What really sets this product over the edges and makes me give it a recommendation is the fact that my 3-year-old boy has not left it alone since I set it up for him last week. The best part is seeing the smile on his face every single time he goes over the bump in the middle, and that’s priceless. The Thomas Train Roller Coaster gets a huge 5/5 from me. Couldn’t be happier.
